Planting and Care Guidelines
Fortunately for us, this penstemon is well adapted to the heat and humidity of the south. For best results, plant Penstemon ‘Dark Towers’ into amended soil, mounded 9″-12″ high or on the side of a slope. Good drainage will prevent root rot. Avoid areas of the garden that collect water.
After planting, mulch with bark mulch or pine needles. Water periodically as the plant gets established, allowing soil to dry between waterings.
A sunny location will bring out the best maroon leaf color and super flower power. Clip back the old flower stalks to encourage new fresh flowers and extend the blooming period.
Divide this clump-forming perennial every few years in the late fall or early spring, to keep its vigor.
